Please submit artwork in Vector format if possible.
- Adobe Illustrator (.ai or .eps): Preferred for flexographic printing. Outline all fonts. Do not embed placed images.
- Adobe PDF: Please include any placed artwork or images; check “Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities.”
- Adobe Photoshop (.psd): Please do not typeset in Photoshop, save as CMYK at 300 dpi. Layered file preferred.
- Freehand: Converts to Illustrator easily.
- CorelDraw: Save as Illustrator file.
Recommended Design Guidelines
- Screens can range from 100-2%. This includes gradients and blends.
- Line thickness should have a minimum of 0.5 pt.
- Type should not be made up of more than 2 colors, with a minimum of 4 pt for solid text and minimum of 5 pt for a reverse (white text). Thin reverse text or serif type may not print and could fill in with surrounding color.
- Avoid thin borders. Artwork that is too close to the edges of the dieline run a risk of being cut off. Please keep designs at least .0625" away from edge of dieline.
- For bleeds, allow .125" outside of dieline.
- Flexography has a "dot gain" when printed. This means a 20% screen may appear printed darker (the darker the color the greater the gain).
- Four color process files may print within a + or - 10% of the file’s color. Specified PMS spot colors are the only way to guarantee a color match.
- Make sure all blacks are 100% K (not a build of 4 colors to make up a black).If possible, send a .pdf as an additional layout guide.
Helpful reminders
- Always send a color proof of artwork so we have a reference.
- Be sure to convert any scanned image to 300 dpi. / CMYK / 100% size before saving. Save as .eps or .tif with binary encoding. Please, no low resolution scans.
- Always supply necessary fonts and placed images.
- Please send only copies of files. DO NOT SEND ORIGINAL FILES. Media will be returned only upon request.

Variable Data
Our integrated digital imaging technology allows us to offer high quality, cost effective labels that are unique and even personalized to your target audience.
Variable data printing enables clients to integrate unique information with their labels for product differentiation, traceability, security, and authenticity.It can be in the form of variable text, barcodes, sequential numbers, date or use by codes, etc. Variable information can be printed on a wide range of substrate types to accommodate many end use applications.
Label Application
In 2011, Highland increased its total labeling capacity by more than 60%. By featuring 21 label application lines, Highland now offers the capability of labeling clamshells that range in sizes from our 4.4 oz to as large as our 4 lb container. Options include, top label, top and bottom label, or top and bottom label with promotional labeling applications. In addition, Highland has an automated in-line soaker pad applicator for sizes up to and including our 2lb containers.
Highland can also address traceability requirements through sequential labeling, Agricultural Data Systems (ADS), and Harvest Mark traceability systems.
